which video frame rate should I choose? 25p or 29.97p?

Which frame rate should you use?

At LightLeakLove.com we offer all of our products in either 25p or 29.97p (commonly known as 30p).

If you’re wondering which one’s right for you - read on!

Video frame rates - 25p or 29.97p?

First, a bit of frame rate background.

The p’s and i’s.

If you are wondering what the P in 25P stand for - it means Progressive.

This means that every frame captured per second is a full frame, as opposed to an interlaced frame (indicated with an i). This gives a clearer, crisper, more filmic visual result.

So which frame rate should you choose?

25p (PAL)

25p is a progressive video format. It means that 25 progressive frames (or images) are produced for every second of video.
Video editors utilise this rate in countries that use a 50hz power grid. This allows direct compatibility with television field and frame rates.

25p is often used to obtain a more “cinema” look - as cinema frame rate is 24p, a close parallel.

Countries where 25p is best.

If you live anywhere in the world but the United States or Canada you will find the country's power grid likely runs at 50hz and as a result your video format will be 25p.
